Mt. Kilimanjaro Adventure Update

On day one (June 18th) we arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania. We are staying at the Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel in Moshi for two nights. The day after we arrive, we go through the pre-climbing with our guides.

On the third day we depart for our climb at the Machame Camp where we start the climb. On day 8 we will finish the climb at the Mweka Gate and make our way back to Moshi, and the Wonders Hotel for the night.

On day 9 we travel to Ngorongoro and overnight at the Serena Lodge. This Lodge is a crater rim that surrounds a vast area of natural African wildlife! We will venture down into the crater the next day seeing many wildlife in their natural habitat. We will arrive later that afternoon in the Serengeti and the Serena lodge for the next two nights. Our free day at the Serena Lodge in the Serengeti we will enjoy a balloon ride over the Serengeti followed by a breakfast/brunch. We then travel back to the Lodge and enjoy the surrounding features of the lodge and enjoy a farewell dinner for the trip.

Included in our trip are:

  • Airport transfers to and from the Kilimanjaro International airport.

  • 3 night hotel at the Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel - all meals included.

  • Full guide and porter team to carry heavy items. You would probably want your own backpack for personal needs and items for the hike.

  • All meals, water, and permits during your climb.

  • private 4 season tent, sleeping bag, and mat.

  • Duffel bag to repack your gear when you arrive and before the climb.

  • All ground transportation.

  • Transport with a qualified driver/guide in 4X4 vehicles with a viewing roof during the safari.

  • 3 nights Safari Lodge accommodations including 3 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 3 dinners.

  • National Park gate fees.

  • Allpark expenses.

  • Bottled water included 1.5 liter per person per day.

The trip will begin on June 18th, 2022 and end in Moshi on June 30th, 2022.

The price will be $5,279.00 USD.

That is the literal itinerary. However, when we arrive in Moshi it will likely be later that night. Not much to do, but sleep on arrival at our hotel. The next morning we will start with breakfast and our pre-climb information. The remainder of the day is free. You can go into town, or visit a local preserve during the afternoon. The next day we begin our journey.

The climb, for the most part, is not technical. There are some areas that may require you to involve your hands too. The key is to acclimate well. Even some of the most in shape climbers can have difficulty with acclimatization. Pole Pole (accent mark over the e) will be the rule. It means 'slowly slowly'. Our route has the most success of all of the routes. We will bond and have a great time, especially in the evenings comparing the hike and other adventures.

The climb is now behind us, and we are looking forward to our safari! Cameras and binoculars are really important. My website will have a direct link to REI for purchases of items that will be of some importance for both portions, the climb and the safari.

As an example, you will need a head headlamp. On the day of our summit we will leave our campsite around midnight. You will need a headlamp for the final ascent. By leaving at midnight, supposedly we will summit around dawn to witness the sunrise over all of Africa! Also, you may want trekking poles, altimeter, wicking hiking shirts, hiking boots, socks and other needs. As we get closer to the departure, I will list many items that you may want to have with you on both the climb and safari.
